White Drama

At the Musee Galliera they are showcasing duo exhibits which are honoring both Rei Kawakubo and Master of Couture Cristobal Balenciaga. The exhibition for Rei Kawakubo is displaying her latest creations, her Spring/Summer 2012 collection for Comme Des Garcons entitled 'White Drama', the director of the museum Olivier Saillard stated that "It is probably a world first to exhibit a whole collection that is so recent, and not a retrospective".

For Comme des Garçons Spring/Summer 2012 collection, Rei Kawakubo created an entire collection of white garments, which to me evoked the feeling of purity and the beginning of a woman's life into marriage. Each garment created an exaggerated silhouette, which gave the illusion that certain parts of the models were larger than they actually were. Certain garments were adorned in tulle and lace flowers, which were placed around the cuffs and the shoulders of the garments, used as veils to cover the models faces and cocoon the body.
